Lead System Architect
Teachstone is a rapidly growing company that is working to secure its position at the forefront of an expanding field that enhances education.
Our mission is to improve education quality through evidence-based teaching and learning programs, including the Classroom Assessment Scoring System™ (CLASS™) and its related professional development tools.
The Lead System Architect will guide a talented team of web developers in creating generation two of our company information system using Ruby on Rails and Agile methods.
This is a full-time position based in Charlottesville, Virginia. Relocation assistance is available.
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Mentor team in developing Ruby on Rails skills in a fast-paced, multi-faceted environment
- Design architecture and strategy for transition of legacy apps and data to new platform
- Create general project design and high-level story list based on requirements
- Write detailed user stories based on general project design
- Implement test-driven development
- Perform software quality assurance testing and participate in code reviews
- Write elegant code; produce solid applications quickly
- Research innovative ways to improve the functionality and presentation of internal and external web applications
- Participate in Products & Technology Team leadership
- Effectively communicate with internal clients about requirements, expectations, deadlines and deliverables
Qualifications:
- Ruby on Rails, PHP, mySQL, jQuery
- Agile methodology
- Creative thinker and motivator
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to converse with technical and non-technical teams and individuals
- B.A. or B.S in Computer Science or related field or an equivalent combination of degrees and experience (English majors turned coders please apply)
- At least seven years development experience, at least 5 with Ruby preferred
- Experience leading teams
