Training Programs

Enjoy an on-site CLASS Training at your location or register for one of our scheduled regional CLASS trainings. Either way, you’ll benefit from our expert trainers and programs.

Introduction to the CLASS

Introduction to the CLASS

This program introduces the CLASS structure, its various uses, and the importance of effective teacher-student interactions to learning. K-3 is available in two-, four- and six-hour versions. The Pre-K six-hour version is available now, with the two- and four-hour versions coming fall 2010.

Note

The Introduction to the CLASS is not a prerequisite for CLASS Observation Training. The two trainings may be taken together if an additional foundation is desired.

Observation Training

Observation Training

This two-day training helps you build an in-depth understanding of the CLASS and teaches you how to use the tool to accurately observe and code classrooms. Explicit instruction and guided practice using authentic classroom videos help you prepare for the CLASS reliability test that follows this training.

About CLASS Observer Certification

Those who pass the CLASS reliability test are certified to use the CLASS to observe and code classrooms for one year, after which recertification is required.

Deepen your content knowledge, learn tips for leading successful CLASS programs, practice leading discussions and training exercises, and receive feedback on your performance from an experienced CLASS trainer.

Note

CLASS Observation Certification is a prerequisite, and we recommend that, after becoming certified, participants observe and code a minimum of ten classrooms before attending this program.

Help Me Decide

Help Me Decide: Regional or On-site

There are a number of factors that affect your choice of which training scenario is right for your organization. For instance, larger groups of more than 6 participants/trainees often find it more economical to hold On-site Trainings. We generally recommend On-site Trainings to groups of the following sizes:

  • Introduction to the CLASS – 8 or more
  • CLASS Observation – 7 or more
  • Train-the-Trainer – 6 or more

Please note that each situation is different due to logistics and economic variables such as travel and lodging costs.

Here’s a complete breakdown of each scenario.

On-Site Trainings

  • Generally recommended for larger groups as outlined above
  • Host organization manages all logistics, provides venue, a/v equipment, and catering and incurs associated costs
  • Host organization incurs costs of trainer travel and accommodations
  • Host organization is responsible for obtaining CLASS Manuals and Score Sheets (ordered from Brookes Publishing)
  • Teachstone provides trainer and all other materials

Regional Trainings

  • Offered approximately once a month at locations nationwide (schedule and locations)
  • Open enrollment, per-person registration fee
  • Teachstone is responsible for all logistics, venue and equipment costs, trainer fees, and training materials
  • Teachstone provides continental breakfast and lunch for participants
  • Participants are responsible for own travel and accommodation expenses
