On-site Training FAQs

  • Are there pre-requisites for CLASS™ Trainings?

There are no pre-requisites for the Introduction to the CLASS™ training.

There are no pre-requisites for the CLASS™ Observation Training.  If you have already taken Observation training and passed reliability, you will be eligible for recertification after 1 year.  If you did not pass reliability, you will need to wait 1 year in order to attend another training and attempt reliability again.

Train-the-Trainer participants must be currently reliable on the CLASS™ tool.  If you’re not sure of your CLASS Reliability status, please call the Teachstone office.  If your certification has expired, you may recertify online.

  • Can I schedule back-to-back Observation training and Train-the-Trainer?

No.  One must be a certified CLASS™ Observer prior to attending a Train-the-Trainer program.  The CLASS training schedule allows you to complete the CLASS™ Observation Training, take time to practice using the tool, and internalize the content before attending the CLASS™ Train-the-Trainer Program. When you complete the CLASS™ sequence in this way, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the CLASS™ tool and provide more effective CLASS™ programs to others.

  • How do I schedule an On-site Training?

Determine your training needs using the On-site Training page.

Then, contact our Training Coordinator, Betsy Murry (betsy.murry@teachstone.org | 434.293.5946) to discuss your needs.  She will assist you in identifying the best training solution for you.

Schedule your training. We require at least 6-weeks notice for scheduling.  Scheduling is based on trainer availability.

  • Can I obtain training elsewhere?

Teachstone is the sole-provider of CLASS™ trainings.

  • How do I pay for the training?

Teachstone will send an invoice after the training is completed.  This invoice will include the training fee, trainer travel and expenses, and any material orders associated with the training.  We use the Federal Per Diem Rate for meals and incidentals.  You may pay by credit card, check, or purchase order.

  • How do I prepare for the training?

Two weeks before the training, each participant will receive a pre-training email with instructions on preparing for the training. The pre-training email will also include log on information for your online CLASS™ account. We recommend the following:

Introduction to the CLASS™: No preparation required.

CLASS™ Observation Training: Familiarize yourself with the CLASS™ Manual. Spend one to two hours watching videos from the CLASS™ video library. Complete your pre-training exercise.

CLASS™ Train the Trainer Program: Review your CLASS™ Manual, especially if you have not been coding recently. Spend one to two hours watching videos from the CLASS™ video library. Complete your pre-training exercise.

  • Do participants need to attend the full training?

    Yes.

  • Can my group take the Reliability test together?

No.  The CLASS™ Reliability Test is designed to determine the depth and breadth of each participants knowledge of the CLASS™ tool. This test is to be taken on an individual level without assistance. Participants may refer to their CLASS™ Manual while determining the codes for the video clips but collaboration or discussion with any other person is not permitted.

  • My participants do not have individual email accounts.

Each participant is required to have an email address as each participant’s CLASS™ training information, certifications, and access is directly linked to the participant’s individual email address.

  • How long do participants have to take the test?

A participant who has completed the 2-day Observation training will have 2-months of access to the CLASS™ Video Library and Reliability Test.  If additional time is needed, one may purchase additional access.
