Regional Training FAQs

  • Are there pre-requisites for CLASS™ training?

Participants in the CLASS™ Train the Trainer Program must be currently reliable on the CLASS™ tool. If you’re not sure of your CLASS™ Reliability status, contact the Teachstone office. If your Reliability has expired, you may recertify online. See the Observer Certification section of our website for details.

For the Introduction to the CLASS™ and for CLASS™ Observation Training, there are no pre-requisites.

  • Where will the training take place?

Our regional trainings take place in hotels in locations around the United States, mostly major metropolitan areas with convenient transportation links. Several trainings each year are held in Charlottesville, Virginia, home of the University of Virginia (where the CLASS™ tool was developed) and headquarters of Teachstone.

  • How do I register for a CLASS™ training?

Registration for CLASS™ trainings is online only. We do not use paper registration forms.

  • What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept major credit cards, purchase orders and checks. If you have a purchase order number, please enter it when you submit your online registration form. Please note that registrations are not confirmed until full payment of registration fees (or a purchase order for the full amount) has been received.

  • My organization requires an invoice for my registration fee. How do I get one?

Once you have provided Teachstone with a purchase order, we will send an invoice to your organization.

  • I want to pay by check but my organization does not use purchase orders. What do I do?

Call Teachstone to make payment arrangements.

  • What is included in my registration fee?

For all regional trainings, the registration fee includes materials, such as handouts, used in the course of your training, as well as a two-month subscription to the CLASS™ Video Library. Continental breakfast and lunch are provided on training days.

For participants in CLASS™ Observation Training, your registration fee also includes a copy of the CLASS™ Manual, which will be sent to you prior to the training. (If you have registered late, you will receive your manual onsite at the training.) The Observation Training fee also includes access to the CLASS™ Reliability Test. (The test is taken online after the training, at a time of your choosing.)

For participants in the Train the Trainer Program, your registration fee includes a Trainer Binder, which you will receive at the training, and a Trainer’s Package, which will be sent to you following the training. Both the Trainer Binder and the Trainer’s Package include materials for you to use in conducting your own CLASS™ trainings.

  • Is accommodation included in the registration fee?

No, travel and accommodation costs are the responsibility of the participant. Group rates on accommodation are available for trainees at the training hotel. Check the links next to your training for details.

  • I registered online for a training but I haven’t received a confirmation. What should I do?

An automatic email confirmation is sent at the time of registration. If you haven’t received yours, please check in your email’s Junk or Spam folder. If you still don’t locate the confirmation, call the Teachstone office and we will resend your confirmation.

  • At what time does the training begin and end?

Training begins at 9:00 am. For finish times, consult the agenda for your particular training.

  • What do I need to bring with me to the training?

For Observation Training and the Train the Trainer Program, be sure to bring your CLASS™ Manual to the training. All other training materials will be provided. Because training rooms are often chilly, we recommend that you bring a sweater or light jacket.

  • How should I prepare for my training?

Two weeks before your training, you will receive a pre-training email with instructions on preparing for your training. The pre-training email will also include log on information for your online CLASS™ account. Briefly, we recommend the following:

Introduction to the CLASS™: No preparation required.

CLASS™ Observation Training: Familiarize yourself with the CLASS™ Manual. Spend one to two hours watching videos from the CLASS™ video library. Complete your pre-training exercise.

CLASS™ Train the Trainer Program: Review your CLASS™ Manual, especially if you have not been coding recently. Spend one to two hours watching videos from the CLASS™ Video Library. Complete your pre-training exercise.

  • What should I wear to the training?

Wear comfortable clothes and be sure to bring a sweater or light jacket, as training rooms tend to be cool.

  • I might need to leave early on the last day of training to catch my flight home. Is that okay?

Full attendance is required for successful completion of the training, so please plan your travel accordingly. Consult the agenda for your training to find your scheduled finish time. If you have questions, contact the Teachstone office.

  • I registered for a training but now I can’t attend. Can a colleague attend in my place?

Yes, substitutions are permitted at no charge. Please call the Teachstone office to request the change.

  • What is your cancellation policy?
    • If you cancel your registration 30 days or more before the start date of the training for which you are registered, Teachstone will refund your registration fee minus an administration fee of $75.
    • If you cancel your registration 14 to 29 days before the start date of your training, no refund will be made; however, credit will be given toward a future CLASS™ training. The credit must be used for a training taking place within one year of the original training start date.
    • For cancellations made less than 14 days before the training start date, no refund or credit will be given.
    • All cancellation requests must be made in writing and submitted to Teachstone via email (patricia.mitchell@teachstone.org), fax (434-293-4338) or mail (105 Monticello Avenue, Suite 101, Charlottesville, VA 22902).
